Our Focus

True Dermatology primarily focuses on skin cancer surgery, reconstruction, prevention, as well as aesthetics. Dr. Raj Patel is a fellowship trained Moh’s micrographic surgeon with the highest level of training in skin surgery. He completed his Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship and dermatology training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Performing thousands of cases, Dr. Patel has the knowledge and experience to approach your skin problem with confidence and trust.

At True Dermatology, our facility contains all surgical suites where the highly trained nursing staff, laboratory manager, and doctor work together to provide comprehensive and cutting-edge care.



Raised in Shelby County, Dr. Raj Patel graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Birmingham Southern College. Dr. Patel went on to earn his medical degree from the UAB School of Medicine under a full merit scholarship and graduating with AOA honors. After completing his dermatology residency at UAB, Dr. Patel completed his Microgarphic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology fellowship at UAB training with Dr. Conway Huang.

Dr. Patel is a Board Certified Dermatologist and the only ACMS fellowship trained MOHs and reconstructive surgeon in Shelby and Chilton County. Dr. Patel is committed to the health of your skin and is excited to begin practicing in his hometown.

In his free time, Dr.Patel enjoys college football, music, cooking, and spending time with his wife and 2 boys.

WAlan Cook


Dr. W. Alan Cook specializes in skin care and has received extensive training to help keep your skin healthy and to treat skin problems.

He is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology and has served as the President of the Alabama Dermatology Society.

With over 30 years of experience in private practice, Dr. Cook can diagnose skin disease quickly and effectively by noting your symptoms and checking your skin.



Anne Townsend Froemming graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia where she received a Bachelors of the Arts in Psychology, as well as a minor in studio art.

Upon graduation, Anne Townsend was accepted into UAB’s AMNP program, where she completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program. Throughout FNP school, Anne Townsend worked full time in the UAB Surgical ICU while interning with many specialists, including dermatologists.

Anne Townsend has received specialized dermatology training over the course of her career, and is also a member of the Alabama Society of Dermatology Professionals. She is trained to biopsy and diagnose skin cancers, perform cryotherapy, treat acne and rashes, as well as administer chemical peels.

In her free time, Anne Townsend enjoys traveling and trying out new Birmingham hot spots!
