Alopecia
Alopecia, or hair loss, is a frustrating condition that can affect men, women and children. It can be difficult to determine the cause, and that’s where True Dermatology can help.
Genetics, illness, hormonal changes, fungal infections, stress, medical treatment, aging or nutritional deficiencies can cause hair to fall out from the head or the body. While it’s normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair a day, the problem occurs when no new hair grows back to replace those lost strands.
Types of hair loss include male pattern baldness, which can also happen in women; an immune disease called alopecia areata; sudden hair loss due to physical or emotional stress; and rapid hair loss due to medical treatment.
To determine the cause of your hair loss, your dermatologist will ask lifestyle questions and may call for a blood test or a scalp biopsy. The hair may grow back on its own, but it if doesn’t, there are treatment options available, including at-home treatments, supplements, prescriptions or an in-office procedure.
Not every type of hair loss can be treated, but you still may be able to prevent further hair loss.
At True, we believe it’s important to offer you choices, so we’ll run through the options and find the one that works best for your life.
